NORWIN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL: 14
Toe to Toe with Norwin
Indiana Girls Varsity Lacrosse fans enjoyed the most exciting game yet
for the 2019 season at Kuzneski field this Thursday. IHS battled
mightily against the Norwin Knights in a game that began much on a
different note altogether.
Norwin took the first two draws and scored rapidly in the initial
minutes, tallying a four-point lead before IHS scored. Then the teams
traded points and Indiana began to close the gap, finishing out the
half down two (4:6).
In the second half Norwin pushed to reclaim momentum and scored but
IHS maintained pressure, notable in the season high 7 Caused Turnovers
(including three by leader Sydney Brice). As the close of the second
half approached, Indiana was down by one point (11:12) when Allisyn
Arotin scored to tie the game with 9 seconds left in regular play. An
unusual overtime ensued (two, 3-minute running clock periods). Norwin
scored to pull ahead in the first OT. Indiana's Kennedi Kunkle scored
in the second OT to bring the teams to an even 13:13 but Norwin scored
again in the final 30 seconds to take the game 13:14.
In addition to season record CTs, IHS also snagged a season high 19
ground balls with credit to: Sydney Brice (5), Avery Redd (3), Ceci
Sherwood (2), Kunlke (2), and one each from Cameron Albert, Allysyn
Arotin, Amy Arotin, Olivia Kuzneski, Lydia Lewis, and Fima Sissoko.
IHS achieved the near victory with several starters unable to play,
and first-time goalie Chloe Hunter taking the net for the second half
and overtimes (9 saves; 52.9%)
Scoring for IHS were Allisyn Arotin (4), Kennedi Kunkle(4), Gia
Spadafora (4) and Avery Redd (1).
The game was dramatic and the younger and dual-rostered players are to
be commended for truly stepping up their level of play.
