WPIAL Individual Championships at Slippery Rock University

Indiana competed Thursday at the WPIAL Individual Championship Meet at Slippery Rock University. The team was led by Kendall Branan and the boys 4x800 relay team who both won their respective events. Branan broke his own school record in winning the event with a time of 1:54.04. Branan, Joey Bujdos, Matt Berzonsky, and Iago Jopia Astray punched their ticket to the State Meet next week in Shippensburg winning the 4x800 relay in 8:00.69.
The following athletes also earned the right to run next week at the State Meet based upon their performance today. Isaac Roadman jumped 14-3 while taking 3rd in the pole vault. 14-3 is the qualifying standard in that event. Faith Hartle (pole vault 10-6 4th place) and Anthony Bevevino (discus 139-11 4th place) both qualified by finishing in the top 4 of their respective events.
Also earning medals by finishing in the top 8 were Bujdos (800 meters 1:57.38 6th place) and Jameson Kutz (triple jump 42-10.75 8th place) Neither of those boys were able to hit the qualifying standard and thus did not qualify for States.

The Indiana Track and Field teams weathered a 90 minute rain delay while winning 5 events and setting 3 school records Friday night at the Altoona Mt. Lion Invitational. The boys started and ended the meet on a high note winning both the 4x800 meter relay and the 4x400 meter relay. In the 4x800 the team of Kendall Branan, Joey Bujdos, Matt Berzonsky, and Iago Jopia won the event with a school record time of 7:54.67. That betters the previous record of 7:55.31 set in 2014 by Darrious Carter, Cole Rosenberger, Adam Lenze, and Ryan Louther. In the 4x400 meter relay the team of Branan, Bujdos, Berzonsky, and Luke Ciocca ran a season's best time of 3:27.91 in winning the event.
In between the winning relays, the Indians secured 3 individual wins. Kendall Branan bettered his own school record 800 meter time by running a 1:54.86. Teammate Joey Bujdos was not far behind taking second in the 800 with a fine time of 1:56.77. Isaac Roadman set the third school record of the day while winning the pole vault with a jump of 14-10. The previous record of 14-9 was held by Joey McCombie set in 2007. The third individual win for the team occured on the girls side of the ledger where Parker Fanella won the girls discus with a throw of 107-6.
The following additional athletes and relays also placed in the top 8 of their respective events helping the boys to a 3rd place finish overall with 72 points and the girls to a 9th place finish with 37 points.

IHS Boys'and Girls' Track and Field Teams Win Indiana County Meet

Both the boys and girls teams won the County Meet today at Marion Center. Kendall Branan won the boys track MVP as a result of winning both the 400 and 800 and was a member of the winning 4x400 relay. Faith Hartle set a County Meet Record in the pole vault with a jump of 10-7. Overall a great day!

The Indiana Track and Field teams lost dual meets to Norwin high school Wednesday afternoon. The boys lost by a score of 114 - 36. Winning individual events overall were Isaac Roadman pole vault (13-0), Anthony Bevevino discus (133-7) and Kendall Branan 1600 meters (4:32.08).
The girls lost by a score of 125-25. Faith Hartle won the pole vault with a jump of 10-0. The girls 4x100 team of Gabby Clark, Emma Levan, Sara Welch and Lizzie Lubold won their race with a time of 55.51.

The Indiana Track and Field teams competed Thursday at the 55th Butler Invitational. The boys had a fantastic meet taking 3rd place overall out of 68 teams with a total of 40 points. Kendall Branan continued his record breaking season winning the 400 meters in a school record time of 48.95. His time broke the previous mark of 49.24 set in 1994 by Chris Johnston. The boys 4x800 relay team of Branan, Joey Bujdos, Matt Berzonsky and Iago Jopia also won their event with a time of 8:16.18.
Other athletes placing in the top 8 of their respective events included: Joey Bujdos (4th place 800 meters - 1:57.33), Isaac Roadman (4th place pole vault - 14-1), Matt Berzonsky (6th place 800 meters - 1:58.65), and Iago Jopia (6th place 3200 meters - 9:38.13). The team closed out the meet by taking 5th in the 4x400. The team of Berzonsky, Branan, Bujdos and Luke Ciocca ran a time of 3:30.26.
For the girls Faith Hartle was the lone medalist taking 3rd in the pole vault with a height of 10-7.

The Indiana track and field teams dropped a pair of section meets Tuesday afternoon at home to Greensburg Salem. The girls fell to the Lions 80 - 69. Faith Hartle continued her strong season to date by pacing the ladies with 3 individual first place finishes. Hartle won the pole vault (10-6), 100 hurdles (16.4) and the 300 hurdles (50.1). The following girls also won their respective events on the day: Maddie Redhead-Kriston (200 meters - 28.4), Sara Welch (long jump - 15-5), April Elder (shot put - 30-6.5), and Lexi Smathers (javelin - 91-5). In the relays the girls 4x100 relay team of Welch, Lizzie Lubold, Gabby Clark, and Emma Levan won their race in a time of 55.2. The girls team falls to 1-4 on the season and 1-3 in Section play.
On the boys side of the ledger Greensburg defeated Indiana by a score of 79-71. Anthony Bevevino, Kendall Branan, and Evan Ray led the boys with two individual firsts apiece on the day. Branan won the 400 meters (49.5) and the 200 meters (23.3). Ray took the high jump (6-1) and long jump (19-5.25). In the throws Bevevino was first in the shot put (41-2) and the discus (132-1). Also winning their individual events on the day were Isaac Roadman (pole vault - 13-0) and Jameson Kutz (triple jump - 41-2). The boys also won the 4x400 relay with Clayton Weaver, Cian Williamson-Rea, Andre Wasem and John Gunter running a time of 4:07.5. The boys fall to 2-3 on the season and 1-3 in Section play.

The Indiana Track and Field Teams competed in the Lady Spartan Hempfield / Greater Latrobe Boys Invitational Saturday afternoon at Latrobe Memorial Stadium.
The boys team took 4th place overall out of a field of 18 teams and was led by Kendall Branan's school record breaking performance in the 800 meters. Branan won the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.71 breaking a record that has stood since 1987. Jameson Kutz also had a strong day for Indiana placing 2nd in triple jump (43-0.25) and 5th in the long jump (20-5.5). Other 2nd place medalists included Isaac Roadman in the pole vault (13-6) and the 4x400 meter relay team of Branan, Iago Jopia, Joey Bujdos, and Matt Berzonsky (3:28.81). Third place medalists included Zach Killeen in the pole vault (12-0) and Anthony Bevevino in the discus (136-4). Other individual medalists and point earners included Evan Ray (high jump - 4th place - 5-9), Matt Berzonsky (1600 meters - 4th place - 4:27.96), Iago Jopia (800 meters - 4th place - 2:03.57), Joey Bujdos (1600 meters - 6th place - 4:34.0), and Tucker Davis (3200 meters - 6th place - 10:21.31). In the other relays the Indians took 5th in the 4x800 (Jack Cikowski, John Gunter, Jason Kovalchick, and Hunter Smathers - 9:35.82) and 6th in the 4x100 (Kutz, Jack Welch, Evan Cox, and Ethan Black - 47.74).
In the girls meet the team placed 9th overall and were paced by Faith Hartle who took 2nd in the pole vault with a height of 10-6. Other individuals placing in the top 6 included Amelia Kuzenski (4th place - high jump - 5-1), Parker Fanella (6th place - discus - 105-6), and Isabelle McCabe (6th place - 1600 meters - 5:43.03). In the relays the girls took 4th in the 4x100 (Sarah Welch, Emma Levan, Lizzie Lubold, and Gabby Clark - 55.60) and 6th in the 4x400 (Maddie Redhead-Kriston, Grace Woolslayer, Sarah Love, and Melina Hilliard - 4:35.23).

The Indiana track and field teams both fell to Greater Latrobe in a section meet held Tuesday afternoon at Indiana. The boys lost by a score of 100-45 while the girls fell 97-53 to the Wildcats. The boys won the following events: 4x800 relay (Joey Bujdos, Iago Jopia, Julian Yerger, and Jack Finegan - 8:58.3), Bujdos (800 meters - 2:01.8), Jopia (3200 meters - 10:13.2), Kendall Branan (200 meters - 23.7), Jameson Kutz (triple jump - 40-9.5), and Zach Killeen (pole vault - 11-6). The girls were led by Faith Hartle who won 3 individual events. Hartle took first in the 100 hurdles (16.2), the 300 hurdles (51.7), and the pole vault (9-0). Parker Fanella also won the discus for the girls with a throw of 98-0.
The boys fall to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the section while the girls dropped to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the section. Both teams will hit the track again next Tuesday in a section dual meet at Hempfield.

CoEd Varsity Track & Field vs. Armstrong Jr/Sr High School

Iago Jopia-Astray, Kendall Brannan, and Jameson Kutz won a pair of individual events apiece for the Indiana boys track and field team Thursday afternoon as the team beat Armstrong on the road 79-71. Jopia-Astray won both the 1600 meters (4:49.0) and the 3200 meters (10:03.0), Brannan took the 200 meters (23.5) and the 400 meters (49.5), and Kutz led the field in the triple jump (40-8.5) and the long jump (19-7). Other individual event winners included Isaac Roadman (pole vault - 14-6), Evan Ray (high jump - 5-10), and Matt Berzonsky (800 meters - 2:06.0). The boys also won all three relays on the track. Berzonsky, Julian Yerger, John Gunter, and Jack Cikowski won the 4x800 in 9:06. Kutz, Evan Cox, Jack Welch, and Ethan Black won the 4x100 with a time of 47.2. Cian Williamson-Rea, Branan, Gunter, and Yerger took the 4x400 running 3:45.0. The boys move to 2-0 on the season and will compete again at home next Tuesday, April 2 in a section meet versus Latrobe.
On the girls side, the Indians feel to the Riverhawks by a score of 97-53. Individual event winners for the girls included Faith Hartle (pole vault - 10-0), Sarah Detweiller (triple jump - 30-11.5), Melina Hilliard (400 meters - 1:08.0), Isabelle McCabe (800 meters - 2:34.0), and Parker Fanella (discus - 98-8.5). Indiana also won the 4x800 meter relay with McCabe, Hilliard, Maddie Redhead-Kriston, and Maddie Todd running a time of 11:05. The girls fell to 1-1 on the season and will also return to action next Tuesday at home versus Latrobe.

The Indiana Track and Field teams opened up their Spring season hosting a section meet with Penn Trafford. Both the boys and girls teams started their season off on the right foot by beating the Warriors Tuesday afternoon.
The girls easily won their first meet of the season with a 103-45 victory. Faith Hartle led the way for Indiana winning three individual events, taking the win in the 100 hurdles (16.5), 300 hurdles (55.0), and the pole vault (9-6). Other individual winners for the girls included Isabelle McCabe (1600 meters - 5:51.7), Maddie Redhead-Kriston (400 meters - 1:05.8), Amelia Kuzneski (high jump - 4-10), Sara Welch (long jump - 14-8.5), Lizzie Lubold (triple jump - 32-0.5), April Elder (shot put - 28-7), Parker Fanella (discus 96-4), and Lexi Smathers (javelin - 87-5). The girls also won all 3 relays taking the 4x800 (11:56.9), the 4x100 (59.1), and the 4x400 (5:08.6).
On the boys side of the ledger the Indians won a close meet by a score of 77-73. Kendall Branan and Joey Bujdos led Indiana with two individual first place finishes. Branan won the 800 meters (1:59.2) and the 1600 meters (4:41.1) while Bujdos took the 400 meters (52.8) and the 200 meters (24.1). Other individual winners for the boys included Matt Berzonsky (3200 meters - 10:35.1), Jameson Kutz (triple jump - 40-8.5), David McElravy (shot put - 39-5), and Isaac Roadman (pole vault - 13-9). In the relays the boys managed victories in the 4x800 (9:13.4) and the 4x400 (3:44.2).
Both teams start the season 1-0 overall and in their section.
